Tenth day in China, ninth day in Shanghai: Yang’s place

Nine days makes Shanghai my second most visited city abroad, before Paris and behind Fukuoka.

Fukuoka (~270 days)
Shanghai (9)
Paris (8)
Tokyo (7)
Rome (5)

Expecting a thunderstorm, we three holed up inside. Alas, it never rained! Anyway, we ate pig’s foot takeout for lunch and lounged around, finally going out for Chinese fast food at dinner. We split some small plates. Yang is a business lawyer, working mergers and acquisitions. Tony is a representative for a pharmaceutical company. We played Street Fighter and Gears of War 2. I washed my clothes, and watched a great documentary called “面条之路 Noodle Road,” about different noodles made all along the 丝绸路 silk road.

Eleventh day in China, tenth day in Shanghai: Yang’s place

Spent the holiday at Yang’s. We watched Unknown on 迅雷看看 Xunlei kankan, a program that will stream just about any movie. Played more Gears of War, ate more food, and drank delicious tea Tony brought from Zhejiang Province.. Tony left for his aunt’s. Yang and I went out for Suzhou noodles at lunch, and Shaanxi food at dinner: really wide noodles with red chili oil, and lamb soup with 粉丝 thin rice noodles and bits of rice starch. I hung out with Yang until close to the last train. Got to 蓝山 Blue Mountain before midnight, bought some fruit at the corner, and checked back in. Got a room with no clean beds, so they changed me back to the same room I had before. The cats were lined up on an ironing board. Somewhere, those kittens had got a bath.
